About

We are drawn to rivers. For as long as the grass grows and the waters flow, rivers and people are one.

RiverSpeak Podcast is devoted to inspire and inform river conservation. We explore rivers by telling the stories of people that would save them.

Topics in focus include biodiversity, science based solutions to climate change, and social equity and inclusion. Most of the rivers we explore will be in the United States, though we may occasionally venture beyond our borders.

And old rivers grow wilder every day

John Prine

Hi, I’m Dave Koehler. I’m passionate about rivers and our connections to them. I believe if we keep our rivers healthy, they will keep us healthy and in good spirit too.

Following a land conservation career spanning 30-years as executive director of two of California’s leading land trusts, Sonoma Land Trust (2015-2019) and the San Joaquin River Parkway and Conservation Trust (1990-2015), I’m now taking time to travel some side roads. I sit on the board of River Partners, helping bring life back to California Rivers. And here with RiverSpeak, I’m exploring rivers everywhere to tell the stories and actions of people that see rivers as a community to which we belong. I love it.

If you share an interest in rivers, I invite you to follow along and we’ll do this together. All rivers have stories that ripple.

Be well, and do good work.
